Happy Veteran's Day

Ben is "star of the week" in 3rd grade this week.
He had to complete a newspaper poster about himself, featuring articles & cartoons.

He had to write a mini-article about a person who inspires him.
"Meet Ben's Hero"
My Granpa is my hero because he is really good with wood and his hands.
He loved the out doors.
He is a veteran of WW II.
He loved reading.

I see so much of my Dad in my boy. I love to tell Ben about my Dad. Sometimes we laugh, sometimes we cry, and sometimes we are silent. Ben has recently joined cub scouts and has really found his niche. He is more my indoor kid, but does enjoy camping & the park. He's earned the priviledge of using a pocket knife & pares down a stick into a great marshmallow cooker in minutes.

And then there's reading. Wow, is he a reader. Takes a book with him almost everywhere he goes. Retains all that he reads as well. Just like my Dad. Although I don't think my Dad took a book to the park with him, as Ben will sometimes do.

Ben cries because he didn't get to know him for very long. He wonders who will teach him to work with wood? Who will take him hunting? He wants to go hiking with Granpa. They could have many Q n A sessions. Ben with lots of questions & Granpa with lots of answers.

Happy Veteran's Day to those who have served or are currently serving our country. For those families who are left behind to carry on while their loved one is away.

To my Dad who served as a Sergeant in the US Army in World War II.
Thank you for your dedication to God, Mom, our family & to our country.

Until the time when we walk hand in hand with him in heaven. We hold Granpa in our hearts.

Thank you, Ben for thinking and loving Grandpa like you do and I know there would have been a lot of question and answer sessions with him.
Love you
G'ma

Such a sweet post Dawn! Makes me sniffle a bit... Ben couldn't have a better hero than his Grandpa.
